The Chumleys Building
The National Historic Literary Landmark and Speakeasy, Chumleys, suffered a calamitous chimney collapse in April 2007 and was fully rebuilt over a protracted period of 9 years, 7 months and 27 days. But who was counting? Now, these many years later, the Property has been unveiled as a restored, rebuilt and, frankly, significantly improved restaurant and private home. It remains a nationally registered historic literary landmark, where such influential writers as William Faulkner, John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemmingway, Edna St. Vincent Mallay, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald passed their time. Having brought in a new more au currant operator, Chumleys has reopened to extensive acclaim, including best burger in NYC (by GQ Magazine). The private home above is fully reconstructed, showcasing a layout exquisite finishes befitting a premiere West Village townhome.
